Maurice Ravel: Fugue in F Minor
Northwestern University Library
Editor and project manager, 2011This publication was created to document and celebrate the acquisition of a rare manuscript of Ravel by Northwestern’s Music Library. The manuscript was the subject of scholarly analysis that resulted in essays, an edited score, and a world-premiere performance of the work by students from Northwestern’s school of music. This publication collects all of these results in appropriate media: printed book for the essays, edited score, and full-size facsimile score; CD for a recording of the musical performance. Choice of printer, printing technique, and format were carefully chosen to accommodate an exact facsimile of the original oversize manuscript and the inclusion of a CD of the musical performance. The publication was distributed to music libraries throughout the world to document this important acquisition, the original scholarship related to it, and Northwestern’s leading role as a music research library. It was also distributed to donors and University leadership to highlight the Music Library’s manuscript collection, its special strength in 20th-century materials, and the need for continued support for the Library and its collections.
